Saint-Venant’s Principle
Saint Venant's principle states that the effect of force dissipates several characteristic dimensions (usually 3-5 in application) from the source. Common applications are width/length ratio in sliding drawers, the width of bearing mounts, and the distance between strain cones of bolts.
For our project, we built a toy crane that applied Saint-Venant's principle through the sliding mechanism and proportional geometric relationships.
