INTERSECTING BALLOON AND BULLET SHOCK-WAVES

This was a group project as part of a Strobe Lab class in MIT’s Edgerton Center. For our final project, we investigated balloon shock waves using the Schleren System. Our goal was to capture still images of a bullet shock wave intersecting a balloon shockwave. The project presented many challenges as the semester progressed. The original high-speed camera we were using, a Lowell Pro, was replaced by a Calumet Elite II which decreased smoke and charring issues. We also had issued with syncing the pop with the new strobe which we solved by adding an audio sensor to the setup.
